Reflection on Class:
This class taught me that there is a lot to be learned when it comes to statical analysis, however, even though I do not know all of the components to conducting statical analysis on a scale necessary to be an institutional researcher, the class taught me the need for institutional research and the importance of investing in staff members that can conduct the research.
The class gave real world examples of how institutional research can be beneficial to higher education and to the importance of higher education such as through predicting enrollment or student success by examining GPA and standardized testing scores.
Ultimately, institutional researchers exist to tell a story and the story they tell is reflected by the data they collected and how they present the material. Each component, how the data is collected, how the data is analyzed and how the data is presented are extremely important in accomplishing the story that the institutional researcher is trying to tell. These stories are important because they lead to important decisions on various topics across the entire realm of higher education and for each individual institution.
